Sunset Sessions 027 – Soul, Sun & Sound at Vaiana’s Beach Bar
Date: Saturday 28 June 2025
Location: Vaiana’s Beach Bar, Rarotonga
Event: Sunset Sessions 027
Series: 5-Part 2025 Edition (April to December – every 2 months)
A Deeper Chapter in the Series
Two months after a stellar launch, Sunset Sessions 027 returned to Vaiana’s Beach Bar and delivered a more rhythmic, funk-driven, and emotionally charged experience. Part two in the Coco House Bros' 2025 five-part series took everything laid down in April, long sets, tight curation, crowd trust, and dug deeper. With the ocean lapping just metres from the dance-floor and a steady stream of world-class grooves pouring from the decks, this was another reminder that when the elements align, location, music, and people, magic happens.

2:00PM–6:20PM: The Long Burn – Coco House Bros Opening Set
Coco House Bros once again opened the day with a four-hour back-to-back rotation, three tracks at a time, a slow and intentional build designed to ease the beach into motion. Their selections moved through deep house, nu-disco, and soulful edits with care and clarity. From Tre Reynolds – “Nothing Hurts” to smooth selections from Opolopo, Bah Samba, and Moodena, the energy never jumped, it glided. Even curveballs like Fleetwood Mac – “Dreams” and Kevin McKay – “In The Air Tonight” fit seamlessly into the journey. A few standout vocal moments and groove-heavy edits rounded out a set built not to impress, but to immerse.
6:20PM–7:00PM: Mark Zow – From Funk to Elevation
Mark Zow took over as the sun hit golden hour, opening with Wild Cherry and moving into a sublime run of funk and soul classics, each reworked and refreshed with clean, crisp production for modern ears. From Michael Jackson to Candi Staton to Gloria Gaynor, the floor lifted with each track. He then veered into deeper grooves with Metroplane, Calvin Harris, and WAHM, before landing on a beautifully judged closer: Leon Benesty – “ADIK”, a moody, Afro-house gem that wrapped his set in warmth and release.
7:00PM–7:40PM: Anthom – Sass and Swing
Anthom followed with a confident and club-leaning set, bridging Afro-tech, vocal house, and urban pop. LEFTI – “Deep Down”, Zetaphunk – “Poker Face”, and Ciara – “So & So” set the tone early. Her bold use of vocal edits like Britney – “Toxic” and Tommy Richman – “Million Dollar Baby” added punch and personality. This set felt stylish, playful, and precisely dialled in for the time of night, teasing peak energy without jumping the gun.
7:40PM–8:20PM: Doctor E – Deep Tribal Flow
Doctor E’s set took the evening into percussive, tribal, and introspective territory. Starting with Axwell – “I Found U”, he layered in hypnotic Afro-Latin rhythms like PLAKY PLAKY, D.P.V. – “Gonna Love You”, and Desena – “Touch”. Rather than driving the tempo, he let it simmer, giving the floor space to settle, sway, and find a collective rhythm. It was a perfectly judged contrast before the high-energy finale.
8:20PM–10:00PM: Coco House Bros Close the Loop
Returning for the final rotation, the crew wasted no time shifting into party mode. Two tracks each, tightly sequenced and full of punch, from Dom Dolla & MK – “Rhyme Dust” and FISHER – “It’s A Killa” to fun, fearless edits by Maori like “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It” and “Fergalicious”. Bangers, bootlegs, and bass-heavy tech carried the crowd through the final hour, before Pachanga Boys – “Time” and ARTBAT – “Best Of Me” brought everything to a beautifully cinematic close.
Why It Worked
Sunset Sessions 027 proved that less is more when it’s done right. No headliners, no gimmicks, just quality selectors, long-format sets, and a crowd that came to dance. Every transition felt earned, every drop made sense, and the day never lost its thread. If Session 026 welcomed you in, Session 027 pulled you further into the journey.
What’s Next?
Sunset Sessions returns on the 30th of August 2025 for Part 3 of this five-part series. If you missed the first two, now’s the time to clear your calendar, because the groove’s only getting deeper.
📆 Next session: 30 August 2025 – mark your calendars
