Sunset Sessions 026 – An Oceanfront Odyssey in Sound

Date: Saturday 24 April 2025

Location: Vaiana’s Beach Bar, Rarotonga

Event: Sunset Sessions 026

Series: 5-Part 2025 Edition (April to December – every 2 months)

The Series Begins

The 2025 edition of Sunset Sessions launched in style on Saturday 24th April with the first in a five-part bi-monthly series hosted at Vaiana’s Beach Bar by local DJ collective Coco House Bros. Designed as a slow-burn celebration of groove, connection, and tropical house culture, Session 026 set the bar with intention and craft. Long sets, back-to-back rotations, and sunset timing created the perfect rhythm to open the series. It wasn’t just about the music — it was about letting the music lead.

2PM–6PM: Coco House Bros B2B – Smooth, Soulful, & Sunlit

The crew took their time, playing three tracks each in rotation, and it showed. The first four hours unfolded like a house music love letter: warm, textured, and patiently paced. Monkey Safari’s “Searching For Myself” eased the crowd into motion before moving through standout transitions included Maz, Tabia – “Nothing On Me” melting into Bakermat – “Temptation”.

Funk and nu-disco soon entered the mix with Bah Samba, Dr Packer, and The Reflex Revisions of Candido and George Benson. A highlight? Cerrone & Jocelyn Brown’s “Hooked On You” (Jamie Lewis Mix) flowing into Recloose – “Dust” — a bridge from chic to deep that hit perfectly.

The vibe was fluid — moving from soulful disco cuts (Smooth Operator, Ride On Time) into Afro-Latin grooves (Ky William – “Teka Teka”) and deeper house tones as the sun began to dip. By the time Daft Punk – “Technologic” (Made In TLV Edit) landed near the end of the block, the dancefloor had transformed from scattered sandals to one moving body.

6PM–6:40PM: Mark Zow – Island Sunset Heat

Mark Zow stepped up for his signature sunset slot — and brought the funk, the soul, and a bit of fire. His own “Our Paradise” (as Coco House Bros) and a perfectly layered Ruketekete Te Mama e acapella gave his intro a local heartbeat. From there, Mark oscillated between melodic (Aaron Hibell – “Set Me Free”), tribal (DJ DALI – “Gita”), and throwback (Beloved – “Sweet Harmony”). He even pulled off a Funkytown edit that felt cheeky and fresh. By the end, Bob Marley’s “Is This Love” (ODELA Remix) closed things out with a grin and a slow groove — a perfect exhale before the next wave.

6:40–7:20PM: Anthom – Sass & Sub-Bass

Anthom brought her now-trademark blend of bold house, deep tech, and pop flips. She opened with “FEEL GOOD” by Angel Heredia, and kept it rolling with Green Velvet, Dajae, Mihalis Safras – “Wurk” and Ultra Nate – “DANGEROUS”. She wasn’t playing — this was club energy disguised as beach music. Her ability to weave between Discotron, Block & Crown, and Joshwa’s “Mercy” gave the set bite. It was modern, feminine, and punchy — like an after-hours set condensed into 40 minutes of swagger.

7:20–8:00PM: Doctor E – Deep Funk Flow

Doctor E brought balance — letting the pressure simmer without boiling over. His set was groove-forward and low-slung, moving through multiple Crazibiza tracks, Jamie Lewis, and Mike Newman’s shimmering edits. It was a proper DJ’s DJ set — the kind that keeps you moving without ever demanding too much. His closer, “Somebody’s Watching Me” (Lookee & Stefane), was a playful wink before the tempo lifted again.

8PM–10PM: Coco House Bros B2B – The Full Send

The final two hours were built for impact. With two tracks each and no filler in sight, the Bros fired through bassy bangers, warehouse tech, and explosive edits. Chris Lake – “Toxic”, ODD MOB – “Tokyo Drift”, and Dom Dolla’s “Rhyme Dust” (Nic Fanciulli Remix) all tore through the system, with Pleasurekraft – “Tarantula” (Bootleg) and The Chemical Brothers – “Hey Boy Hey Girl” (ARTBAT Mix) hitting pure peak-time energy.

By the time Odd Mob – “Get Busy” hit, there were no shoes left on the dancefloor and not a still body in sight.

Sunset Sessions 026 Verdict

As an opening chapter to the 2025 Sunset Sessions series, this was a bold, confident statement. No gimmicks. No pretense. Just great music, long sets, and one of the most beautiful backdrops on Earth.

It set the bar high — but if Session 026 is any indicator, the next four will be even harder to miss.

📆 Next session: June 2025 – mark your calendars
